"Things could be entirely different at this stage in my life, if I hadn't beaten [Fabricio] Camoes at UFC 148, who knows where I would be right now. Instead, I'm co-headlining a UFC pay-per-view for Mr. Lorenzo [Fertitta] and Mr. Dana [White] and all the fans, and in a fight that I think will be the Fight of the Night. I feel blessed, and so much of this has to do with my team, my coaches and my manager who guided me and helped me settle down and build a real life and training program in South Florida. There is no way that [Donald] Cerrone can beat me, because for the first time ever, I will be fighting at my full potential. I can't wait for Denver. I want the fight to be this weekend. I'm already in shape and in my mind, and in strategy sessions with my coaches, I've already won the fight ten different ways."

-Melvin Guillard comments on his short notice fight with Donald Cerrone, coming to UFC 150 on August 11 in Denver, in a statement released by his management team at Authentic Sports Management.

Penick's Analysis: When I spoke with Guillard into the lead up of UFC 148, he made it clear that he's willing to fight anyone in the world, and he followed up on that by taking this fight against a former Greg Jackson teammate in Cerrone. The fight against Camoes earlier this month wasn't his most thrilling, but for the most part he fought a smart fight that earned him a win, and that's really what he needed. Now he's back into a position where he can make a leap up the rankings should he defeat Cerrone, and that's exactly where he wanted to be. As he said to me a couple months back, it's all about getting the right fights, and winning the right fights, to work your way to a title shot. This is the right fight for him right now, and he'll be out to take advantage of that.
